Transformation on gas
The new XYZ portal has published an in-depth article on the place of gas in the Polish energy transition model. In the expert commentary, our managing partner, mec. Małgorzata Banasik highlights the value of cogeneration and points to the role of smaller gas units in district heating.
In the text by editor Barbara Oksińska, the discussion on blue fuel proceeds from the narrative that gas should be used as an interim fuel on the way to climate neutrality and guaranteeing our energy security. The second set of arguments are warnings against the ‘gas trap’ and Poland’s over-dependence on the resource.
‘Today, the balancing of the energy system, with the increasing share of wind and solar farms, is done with coal-fired power plants, which are not adapted to variable production. Gas units are much better for balancing the system (…) In my opinion, it would be a good solution to invest in smaller gas sources for heating. Such units could work in cogeneration and thus produce electricity and heat. In this way, we would transform the heating industry and at the same time support the electricity system. We need to look for solutions that help to amortise gas projects (…)’
