Mr Banasik at the Net-Zero Poland meeting

The meeting of the Advisory and Stakeholder Committee of the project was attended by scientists, representatives of the administration, the energy industry and social organisations.

Net-Zero Poland is an initiative combining scientific research, technological modelling and social issues related to energy transition and decarbonisation of the economy. Its aim is to develop comprehensive, detailed pathways for Poland to achieve net-zero emissions across the economy by 2050. The project supports the implementation of the Paris Agreement and EU climate regulations.

The key question in the entire undertaking is how to achieve the net-zero goal while maintaining the reliability of energy supplies. Net Zero Poland experts presented the most important elements in the second phase of this project, which include spatial and temporal detailing of energy asset development in various net-zero scenarios and a methodology for modelling the development of the power grid.

The second part of the meeting featured an expert discussion with Małgorzata Banasik, Marzena Czarnecka, former Minister of Industry, Anna Kornecka, President of the Management Board of Hydro Sanok, and Michał Kurtyka, former Minister of Climate and Environment. The discussion was moderated by Jarosław Kupecki, head of the Energy Institute – National Research Institute.

The panellists discussed regional and global challenges related to energy transition. They also predicted how these challenges should be reflected in strategic national documents setting out the framework and direction for the development of the energy sector.
