Modern Technologies in the Era of Energy Transition – A Few Words About Hydrogen, Gas, and Biogas
A lecture with this title was delivered by Małgorzata Banasik, Esq., co-founder and managing partner of the BWW law firm, at the University of Economics in Katowice. The event was attended by over 150 students
Our expert discussed the structure of the natural gas market (production, transmission, distribution, storage, and sale of gaseous fuels). She also presented the basic legal regulations in force at the national and EU levels, the rules for licensing energy activities, and the role of gas infrastructure operators.
The next section focused on hydrogen as one of the components of the new energy system. In this context, the types of hydrogen, methods of its production, production costs, and potential applications in industry, energy, and transportation are important. Attorney Banasik
also presented the principles of the European hydrogen strategy, the EU’s decarbonization goals, and the importance of hydrogen for enhancing energy security and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
A separate section of the lecture was devoted to biomethane and biogas in the energy transition process. The objectives of the REPowerEU strategy, the potential for biomethane market development, and the importance of renewable gases for achieving climate neutrality were discussed.
The lecture was part of an initiative by the Department of Energy Transition at the University of Economics in Kraków (UEK) under the Just Transition Fund and the project “Supporting the region’s just transition process by strengthening UEK’s faculty.”
