Energy Day in Brussels with the participation of BWW
On the occasion of Poland’s assumption of the EU Council Presidency, Polish government ministers responsible for energy, as well as the CEOs of the largest energy companies, met with EU policy and business leaders.
One of the topics of discussion was the European Commission’s planned ‘Clean Industrial Deal’. This is a set of regulations, mechanisms and solutions designed to support the competitiveness of the European economy in a period of moving towards carbon neutrality. BWW law firm experts Małgorzata Banasik and Agnieszka Ferek took part in the meeting.
– The Polish voice in the European discussion on the energy strategy, its priorities, financing and translation into the economies of the EU countries, which form a system of interconnected vessels, was very clearly highlighted. Our path to climate neutrality takes into account our specific characteristics, which can be clearly seen, for example, in the sphere of district heating. It is not possible to carry out the transformation effectively without dialogue with the EU administration, which not only defines the directions and goals, but at the same time determines the tools of financial support, says Małgorzata Banasik.
There were inspiring speeches from representatives of entities that deal with energy in Europe. A great discussion was sparked by Fatih Birol, director of the International Energy Agency, who pointed to three mistakes made by the Old Continent in designing its energy policy. According to the Turkish economist, these are lack of diversification and dependence on raw materials from a single source, surrender of technological advantage to China in the field of RES, especially photovoltaics, and, last but not least, departure from nuclear energy.
Grzegorz Onichimowski, President of the Management Board of PSE, was listened to attentively, and clearly stressed that ‘energy supply and power supply are increasingly becoming two completely separate markets’, and in Poland we are aware of this. Hence the role of gas as an interim fuel in our transition, as an element in reducing emissions and increasing security, especially in the context of stabilising sources that are highly dependent on the weather (sun, wind). Energy storage is a technology that can work in both of these markets.
BWW’s law firm bases its activities on comprehensive support for clients in the areas of energy, infrastructure and labour law.
- Energy transition and accompanying our partners throughout the change process (large companies, SMEs, local authorities) are at the heart of our work.
- We have experience in PPP projects, RES investment processes including assistance in obtaining the relevant environmental decisions, as well as issues related to the use of waste heat.
