BWW law firm at the Future Energy Congress
What can be done in the legal area to accelerate the green transformation in industry? This was discussed at the conference in Toruń by mec. Anna Belowska-Sroka, who deals with energy law, environmental protection and RES client services at our law firm.
This year’s edition focused on topical issues related to, among other things, the assessment of recent legislative changes, Poland’s energy security, renewable energy sources, industry transformation and the future shape of the energy market. Discussions on the future of the energy sector involved business representatives and industry experts, including lawyers and economists.
– EU regulations related to climate targets are extensive and very complex. However, in the public space, there is a lack of clear information on the obligations of entrepreneurs related to this and the time caesuras that accompany it, said Ms Belowska-Sroka, lawyer, during the conference, in a discussion on the green transformation that the economy is undergoing.
The RES investment and environmental protection expert at BWW emphasised that the state of legal certainty is one of the most important aspects when it comes to long-term business planning.
– There will be no serious modernisation of power grids, while some regulatory solutions can be pointed out to facilitate the location and connection of RES installations to the grid. Greater transparency is needed in connection procedures, as well as in proceedings before the President of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) in the event of an appeal against a refusal to issue connection conditions. Added to this are issues concerning the possibility to use cable pooling and optimise hybrid RES installations. And also the simplification of the proceedings for issuing environmental decisions, the abolition of the requirement for the investment to be covered by a local spatial development plan and a postulate to clarify the permissible scope of obligations imposed on the investor under the integrated investment plan, said Anna Belowska-Sroka.
The event organised by the association ‘With Energy About Law’ was held for the third time. Although relatively young, it has already become a permanent fixture in the calendar of important discussion events in the energy sector.
